INTERNATIONAL MAIL-ART CALL

INTERNATIONAL MAIL-ART CALL
15.03.–15.06.2021
INTERNATIONAL MAIL-ART CALL
WITH MAIL ART ARCHIVE VIENNA
Mail-Art, postcard art, art postcard
For artists, mail art is a way of creating non-commercial art that eludes the established channels of mediation and marketing.
Postcards are collaged from photocopies, newspaper clips and selected stamps and sent to acquaintances. With his Mail-Art, Padhi Frieberger propagated the concerns of the ecological and peace movements and referred to political debates. Above all, however, he polemicised against "pseudo-artists". As a social and political medium, Mail-Art was also a means of resistance in the dictatorships of Latin America and Eastern Europe.
Even in the digital age, mail art is not sent by e-mail. Small-format art is still very popular and remains an analogue medium. In the Mail Art Archive Vienna, Mail-Art is collected and presented in the form of magazines.
In cooperation with Mail Art Archive Vienna, WestLicht announces an international open call and invites mail art artists to send their works. All submissions will be presented on the site on an ongoing basis.
