For the fifth time in succession – and this year for the first time extended to six weeks – the annual touring show of the best press photographs worldwide makes a stop in WestLicht. The award-winning photographs of the competition—first held by the Netherlands World Press Photo Foundation in 1955—is seen every year in 40 countries and by 2 million people. The over-all winner of this year’s contest is the Canadian photographer Finbarr O’Reilly, Kanada, Reuters, with his picture of a mother and her starving child taken in an emergency clinic in Niger.
