Great 53,000 euros achieved at WestLicht benefit auction!
With a total result of 53,000 euros and a sales quota of 100 percent, the WestLicht charity auction was a great success. In the best of moods, Heinz Fischer auctioned off 40 photographs from his 12-year term as Federal President together with WestLicht CEO Peter Coeln at the Westlicht Photo Museum on Thursday evening.
In an amusing double conférence, the two charity auctioneers jointly knocked down all of the 40 photographs on offer to new owners. Among the highlights was a photograph by Peter Lechner showing Fischer behind a Leica, which fetched 3,000 euros. Even higher, at 3,600 euros, was the large-format Polaroid by Peter Coeln, shot especially for the auction and exhibition in May.
The net proceeds will go to Cecily Corti's VinziRast projects for the homeless, which Heinz Fischer and his wife Margit have supported for many years. Deeply moved, Corti thanked him at the end for the result, which means an enormous sum for VinziRast, which relies exclusively on private donations.
At one of his last public appearances, numerous prominent companions and friends of the Federal President - including actress Erika Pluhar, filmmaker Ulrich Seidl, art collector Heinz J. Angerlehner, former Minister Josef Ostermayer, former US Ambassador Helene von Damm, ORF programme director Kathrin Zechner, film director Robert Dornhelm, writer Michael Köhlmeier, Belvedere vice-director Alfred Weidinger and gallery owner Johannes Faber - turned up and auctioned off photographs for the good cause.
