18th WESTLICHT PHOTO AUCTION

At 144,000 euros, Robert Capa's famous war photograph The Falling Soldier achieved the highest price ever paid for a photograph at a WestLicht auction. The picture had started at 60,000 euros. The auctioned copy is one of the very rare early prints, which was enlarged shortly after the photograph was taken in 1936/1937 and comes from the Black Star Archive in New York. The picture is probably one of the most important war photographs of all time and is considered a symbol of the fight against fascism. The sales quota of the 18th WestLicht Photo Auction was 75%, the best result so far.
