RENÉ GROEBLI
05.04.–02.06.2024
Movement is the leitmotif in the work of Swiss photographer René Groebli (* 1927).
Inspired by cinema, his books Magie der Schiene (1949) and Das Auge der Liebe (1954) work virtuously with editing, montage and dynamic blurring. Movement itself becomes the subject of the photographs, and both publications are milestones in the history of photography. However, Groebli's oeuvre goes far beyond this and encompasses the most diverse genres: photojournalism and street photography, portraits and colour experiments, auteur photography and commissions. The exhibition brings together around 100 works from Groebli's most creative period from the late 1940s to the end of the 1970s.
